We, the undersigned, residents of the City of New Haven strongly object to our elected officials' decision to dramatically increase taxes by 11% for the 2018/2019 fiscal year. These massive tax increases are unsustainable for homeowners, renters, and businesses trying to stay in New Haven. We can no longer tolerate unbalanced budgets, failure to look critically at cutting spending, and lack of transparency in financial planning. We demand that our elected officials represent the interests of tax paying residents and seek immediate action to address the city's financial problems. We demand a direct repeal of this unfair tax increase.

My family is watching our monthly budget collapse under this new tax burden and I know many of you are in the same position. We are nearing five hundred signatures which gives us the leverage we need to demand a real meeting with city hall. Please get this link to your neighbors so we can hit that target by tonight.

One hundred of us have already signed on to say that we cannot afford to live like this anymore. Seeing these names pop up on my screen reminds me that my neighbors are just as worried as my family is about being forced out of our homes.

I find it odd that the alder people just gave carte blanche to the budget. NO examination of what could be adjusted in the budget. The residents of this city cannot afford to pay the increase so why don't they find other ways of balancing the budget
The city has to be more responsible with their money, rather than shouldering the burden of their mismanagement on homeowners. How does the city intend to sustain itself by pricing out young, productive, professionals who are invested in their communities?
I talked my relatives into buying the house that I'd been living in for decades, convinced that it would be a good investment for them. Now I fear that I've trapped them into a financial quagmire. Please fix New Haven instead of continuously striking blows against it.
$30 million deficit. Using pension payments and debt proceeds along with future Yale increased Pilot is irresponsible and reckless. Granting pay increases up to 11% - is arrogant and insulting while demanding taxpayers fork over $30 million tax hike.
After the payments for school construction peaked and then subsided (as planned by prior administration) and after so many new construction projects have been added to the grand list, our property taxes should have been reduced, not increased. This is not acceptable.
Our taxes are some of the highest. Not all of us are wealthy. I believe in taxation to improve our cities and states, but I’d prefer tolls coming into Ct or increasing other taxes on those who have more

Once again, current taxpayers have to shoulder the weight of unpaid taxes from local corporations. Even with this increase we're already in debt for next year, and we still have ridiculous costs like Tweed airport, which loses more tax money each day of operation.
