Hailsham is a rural town. It doesn't have the infrastructure: schools, doctors, roads, shops to support more growth. There aren't the local jobs so people have to travel away from the town, increasing congestion and pollution. Local residents are priced out of the housing market. The shopping centre doesn't have the variety or capacity to cater for a greater population. The town encroaches on more and more green belt, destroying habitats and places local people can walk and enjoy the countryside.
