All across the state of Massachusetts the majority of parents and children would like to return to in person learning. The school board and teachers union are continuing to shove “remote learning” down everyone’s throats. For one, the lessons are short, and teachers are hardly doing the work they do in the classroom. Kids are typically in school 7 hours or so a day, remote learning is a lesson or two a week for a half hour with busy review work to follow. That’s hardly a teacher earning their salary, and that’s hardly a student learning. It’s completely unacceptable. Additionally, many children don’t have computers or reliable high speed internet in the home. Taxpayers across the state are paying bus contracts and building maintenance and utility fees all for none of those to be used, and the taxpayer should receive a reimbursement to make alternate arrangements for childcare, tutors, additional learning. Even taxpayers without children should receive a reimbursement as they’re still supporting the school system and the money isn’t going to what it should, and with many people unemployed because of covid restrictions put in place by the state, they could also use that money.
