******UPDATE 11/30/2023******

WE DID IT!

StayAPT has withdrawn their appeal to City Council.

THERE WILL BE NO 3 STORY HOTEL 260' FROM OUR HOMES.

WE followed the process.

WE never falsified data.

WE did all of this WITHOUT legal counsel and ZERO assistance from City Staff (with the exception of records requests).

WE kept our presentations objective, without slander to the applicant, the franchisee, the developer, nor stayAPT's leadership.

WE came together as a community.

Thanks to all 671 of you that signed.

******UPDATE 10/27/2023******

Tentative City Council date of 12/12/2023 - info listed below:

******UPDATE 9/15/2023******

Thanks to all that attended last night! A UNANIMOUS NO is pretty powerful! While we are not out of the woods, we will graciously accept this small win.

The applicant has 15 DAYS to appeal. That said, this petition will remain active until we are certain the CUP is closed.

_______________________________________________________

Safety, privacy, and community issues are still a concern. Many of the issues are unable to be rectified by the developer.

StayApt is slated to be a 3-story extended stay hotel proposed to be built at 7300 W. Camino San Xavier. The City of Glendale has agreed to allow StayApt to file for a Conditional Use Permit. Please join your neighbors, business owners, and community by signing this petition opposing StayApt.

StayApt Facts:

  • Extended stays are notorious for increased crime including but not limited to drugs, prostitution, sex trafficking, etc. This poses a direct danger to our community, our vulnerable populations, our properties, and surrounding businesses.
  • Extended stays provide temporary housing for transients.
  • Extended stay residents are subject to squatters' rights.
  • StayApt outsources their housekeeping needs, meaning there is no pride, nor ownership of the property from an employee standpoint. ***Update 8/8 - StayApt "MIGHT" outsource their housekeeping needs.
  • The franchisee is from the east coast, and will be an absentee owner. He has self-reported no experience in AZ, nor our community.

Residential:

  • This will immediately introduce 24-hour activity to our quiet residential neighborhood.
  • The walking/equestrian trailhead at the end of 73rd Ave is less than 300 feet away from the proposed property, giving them direct access to our neighborhood. StayApt nor their attorneys were aware of the walking and equestrian trails at the end of 73rd Ave.
  • The City cannot speak to the devaluation of our homes.

Personal Safety:

  • StayApt will be less than one mile from Arrowhead Elementary School, with direct access on foot from the property to the school via 73rd Ave, 75th Ave, and the frontage road.
  • The property is less than 500' from a school bus stop.
  • Many of our children ride their bikes, walk to and from school, and play outside. We do not need our babies introduced to the dangers of transients seeking temporary housing.
  • StayApt has no intention of vetting the residents.

Business Safety:

  • The property is slated to have 76 apartments, with only 79 parking spaces. This poses a traffic and parking issue for the surrounding business, and our neighborhood.
  • The City has no plan to manage traffic at the "blind curve" on Camino San Xavier.
  • The businesses in the area range from medical offices, to gyms, to contractors, to finance -- all of which will require increased security measures to mitigate theft and burglaries due to the increased traffic and 24-hour activity.

In addition to your signature, please plan on joining us at City Council, tentatively scheduled for December 12, 2023, at 5:30pm, at 5750 W. Glenn Dr. The City, StayApt, and their attorneys need to see a joint effort.

Thank you!
