No Vehicle Tolls For Treasure Island Residents!
We, the below signed residents of Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island and San Francisco, petition the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA), Treasure Island Mobility Management Agency (TIMMA) and the Treasure Island Transportation Management Agency (TITMA) to exempt current TI and YBI Island residents and businesses from vehicle tolls to get to AND from their homes and businesses. Please consider that residents live on an Island with very limited supplies and few basic services and often depend on their cars, and that business owners most likely would have to compensate their employees and vendors which would effectively drive many of them off the island.
It is an unfair proposal and immense financial burden to force Island residents and businesses to pay these tolls in both directions. With a potential third toll for the Bay Bridge itself this could end up costing as much as $13/day/vehicle! This will disproportionately affect the poor and middle class. While we fully encourage and support travel by alternative modes and all forms of public transportation, those options are not even available for years to come. Forcing Islanders to use and pay for limited bus and much later ferry services or else penalizing them with fees for using their own vehicles for daily, mandatory duties is unprecedented and highly controversial. Island residents and businesses should not be punished for needing their vehicles to lead their basic lives, do their jobs and tend to their families while already driving less than most everybody else in the Bay Area. When we use our vehicles it most often is not a matter of choice but a matter of necessity.
Exempt Treasure Island residents and businesses from vehicle tolls!
