We the undersigned oppose construction of the "Garden Parkway" in Southern Gaston County, NC. We feel that the project is unnecessary, wasteful, and would negatively impact the County and Communities through which it would travel. We believe that the route is not needed; currently available interstates and other roadways serve the area. Further, this project is *falsely* billed as a commuter route; ie, a solution to alleged inadequacies of current roadways. It is, in reality, a commercial viaduct to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The undersigned citizens of Gaston County do not want to have our quality of life victimized by this. We feel it is financially irresponsible to have public funds contribute to what will amount to a private road. (Public funds should not contribute to toll roads!) Also, we have concern that elected public officials and financial interests, who will not personally be affected by this construction, are the main proponents of the project. We believe that they do not have the public interest or opinion in focus. Furthermore, the project would change the look and feel of our Communities in a way that is out of character with what we believe is and should be the nature of our home. WE LIVE HERE!!! This matter has never been brought to a forum where it can be decided upon by the people who it will most directly impact: the citizens of Gaston County. We believe the project should be abandoned, and at minimum, call for a referendum vote regarding the project. ** "Anonymous" signatures don't add strength to our numbers -- please stand up for your opinion and be counted as an individual! ** ** Further, if possible, please use individual e-mail addresses to identify yourself as an individual!
