#FlightFree2019
This campaign is inspired by the Swedish campaign #Flygfritt2019 organised by Maja Rosen and Lotta Hammar, which has already led to over 10,000 Swedish citizens pledging not to fly in 2019. English-speaking people on Twitter have asked how they can record their pledge -- this page is a means for them to do so. You can follow us on Twitter @FlightFree2019
Why flight free?
We need urgent action to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. In its most recent report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that limiting global warming to 1.5°C will require "rapid and far-reaching" transitions. The consequences of failing to meet this target will be catastrophic.
Flying is a major source of CO2 emissions. If global aviation was a country, it would rank in the top 10 emitters. When the effect of releasing emissions at high altitudes is included, aviation is responsible for 5% of global human climate change impacts (Van Renssen, 2012). For many of us, not flying is one of the simplest ways that we can dramatically reduce our carbon footprint.
Please join us in pledging to be flight free in 2019!
