Small towns across America, in an effort to protect the uniqueness and historic charm of their communities, are fighting against over-development and Franchise/Formula businesses. They are adopting and making amendments to their existing codes to restrict Franchise and Formula businesses, which are any and all business types that share common features, such as; a standardized merchandise, trademark, architecture, decor, branding and/or signage, with at least 11 other establishments local, regional or worldwide.

Town of Orangetown’s motto is: Rich in History. In our efforts to protect and preserve the Historic Districts of the Town of Orangetown, we the undersigned are against Franchise and Formula businesses in the Historic Districts and request that the Town Board make an immediate resolution to amend the Zoning Code to add Franchise and Formula business to the list of businesses to be excluded (not permitted) in the Tappan and Palisades Historic Areas.

We continue to recognize that individualized and mom & pop businesses retain the charm and quaintness of our historic villages while strengthening the economy of local business owners.
