Nominate a Constitutionally Eligible Republican VP
We the undersigned implore the Republican nominee for President to select a vice-presidential running mate who is without question, a natural born Citizen of the United States, that is, someone born to two U.S. citizen parents. Neither Marco Rubio nor Bobby Jindal meet that requirement. Of course both are citizens; no one disputes that.
But the Constitution requires that the President and Vice-President of the United States be not just citizens; they must be natural born Citizens. The Constitution makes a clear distinction between the two. That distinction was affirmed by the Supreme Court in its Minor v. Happersett ruling in 1875 and has been precedent ever since.
Every President and Vice-President from our founding until 2008 was either "a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution" or born to two U.S. citizen parents (except Chester Arthur who successfully concealed throughout his entire life that his father was NOT a U.S. citizen at the time of Chester's birth.)
If elected President, the Republican nominee will take an oath on January 20, 2013 to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. We cannot vote in good conscience for someone who would violate that oath by selecting a vice-presidential running mate who is not Constitutionally eligible to serve.
