North County Trailway Bike Path Dangerous Crossing
ATTENTION!! North County Trail Users - Westchester County - Dangerous Crossing Proposal Information
There is a proposed vehicular crossing of the North County Trail (Bike Path) in a residential area approximately halfway between Baldwin Place Shopping Center in Somers, NY and Jilco on Mahopac Ave. in Granite Springs, NY.
This is a major safety risk to all Trail users who enjoy this portion of the North County Trail. There would be significant danger on a daily basis by crossing car and truck traffic over the Trail. Walkers, jogger, cyclists, children and pets would be in harms way in this normally quiet and peaceful setting.
This DANGEROUS proposed crossing would be an extension of Green Tree Road (cul de sac) over the Bike Path. This extended undeveloped portion of Green Tree Road is owned by the Town of Somers NY. The new road would start in the cul de sac travel through wetlands and NYSDOT Right of Way land, and continue over the Bike Path. A private developer owns a piece of landlocked property on the West side of the Trailway and would need this access for a common driveway servicing 3 homes.
It would be irresponsible to allow this dangerous crossing over the North County Trailway, crossing Wetlands and requiring the destruction of a considerable amount of trees and vegetation along both sides of the North County Trailway Right of Way. There are other, safer options available to access the landlocked property. The property can be accessed from Route 6 via the proposed extension of Clayton Blvd. which would bring a road to the edge of the landlocked property thereby eliminating the need for a dangerous Trail crossing.
Help preserve this 2 mile stretch of green space and protect Trail users from this dangerous proposal by keeping our Trail and Parkland a safe place to enjoy nature for you and your family.
