NPS Dress Code
Recently the Newington Board of Education passed a motion to change the dress code in all Newington schools grades K-12. The dress code requirements are extremely vague and include students being allowed to dress how they feel comfortable. This includes wearing clothes that cover undergarments, but does not say children are required to wear them. It also states that this is up to parents discretion, but does not account for children changing their clothes once in school. This verbiage leaves the option open for tube tops, short shorts, costumes, etc. This vague dress code description and minimal disciplinary action allows for a large amount of disruption in the classroom. Students already have large learning gaps due to Covid and can’t afford any more classroom disruption and distraction. Many Newington parents and teachers are not aware of this change, as it can only be found in the meeting notes buried on the BOE website. Please vote to revoke this dress code change set to be implemented on August 25, 2022, the start of the school year.
