It is our Mission to ensure that all students of the North Shore Schools are provided the highest quality education that is fundamentally sound and both culturally and socially enriching. To reach this goal we need to ensure that the Superintendent and the Board of Education's (BOE) policies address our children's educational needs as well as the interests and concerns of the North Shore School District families. Unfortunately, despite our community’s clear objections and dissatisfaction with the World language program, The BOE and the Superintendent decided to remove the Italian language from the curriculum, demonstrating blatant disregard for our teachers', parents' and students' educational desires and beliefs. This requires immediate action by all residents to prevent further deterioration of the superintendent and the BOE's ability to acknowledge and respect the needs of its constituents. Accordingly, with this petition we make the following demands and recommendations:

1- That the Board of Education and The Superintendent rescind its decision concerning the World Language Program and immediately reinstate the Italian language program for grades 6 through 12 as a credited language course;

2- That we the people, as members of this District, will not vote for any future school budgets that includes the extra expense of the World Language program, and which does not include an Italian Language Program, and which does not recognize the community’s specific needs and recommendations; and

3- That the Board of Education, as elected officials by this community, be responsible to the very constituents who elected them, by doing their jobs responsibly in requiring the Superintendent to not only make sound educational policy decisions, but to ensure that all such policy decisions enacted are consistent with the community’s needs and desires.

Please sign this petition if you would like to make a difference in the education at North Shore Schools and show your displeasure with the elected members of the Board of Education and our superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick for not listening to the community’s needs and recommendations. Please be a supporter of a “Better Education” for North Shore School District!

Total disrespect to the community. We pay enough taxes to have the programs we want. Fix it.

The board clearly has their own agenda and forgets who they actually work for. Put it back on the schedule.

My daughter was so looking forward to taking Italian next year. This is a huge mistake and the board needs to listen to us for once.

Why are they removing options for our kids instead of adding them? Makes no sense to me.
