They actually said yes and we are finally getting a dedicated public mother and baby unit. I am honestly just sitting here staring at the news with tears in my eyes because it feels like a dream to know these families wont be separated anymore. Thank you for sticking with …

NSW does not currently have a public mother and baby psychiatric unit. This means that mothers who are admitted to hospital under the Mental Health Care Act or uninsured or both are put in general mixed psych wards and their baby needs to be cared for externally. This has MASSIVE health implications for both the mother and the baby.

I just looked at the inbox and saw we hit 250 signatures and honestly my brain is kind of spinning because I started this sitting in my kitchen feeling like nobody was listening. It is wild to think about that many people actually caring about this issue even if it is just a small start in the grand scheme of things.

I was just checking the count and we are getting way closer to that 250 mark which feels wild because honestly I started this sitting on my floor at midnight. If you have a second to send this link to a group chat or just text one person who might care it could push us over the edge before the day ends.

Getting toward that first milestone and I keep looking at the screen thinking about how many more people need to see this tonight. It is honestly absurd that we are still fighting for this basic care but if we can just push past this hundred mark it might actually force them to look up from their desks.

I was separated from my first baby, after avoiding hospital for a long time and getting extremely ill. I would have had better interventions and not gotten as unwell if I had access to a mother baby unit early on

A public funded MBU literally saved my life and also saved me from an abusive relationship, without it myself and my then baby (now 10yo) would not be on this earth today!

Totally agree. Both my daughters suffered from post natal psychosis. They were in general psych units. Could not have their babies with them. A terrible experience for the whole family. We live in Queensland. I hope this petition helps to get the proper facilities and care that mums, babies and their families need.

Two precious children, two awful experiences of Postnatal Psychosis. Public Mother Baby Unit is so important for complete family care with short and long term benefits.

Babies deserve to be cared for by their mothers, especially when their mothers are unwell. The long term emotional and psychological effects on both mother and baby would have greater outcomes if they are kept together.

I have provided training systems support for Westmead over a number of years and witnessed and know the mix of needs that exist in that region. The requirement for Mother and Baby support is very high and requires urgent attention.
