Dear Oakwood community,
This petition is to request that Oakwood extend their internal vaccination mandate allowing parents of the community more time to consider all options concerning the vaccination and their young children.
Currently, only 17% of American children in this age group have been vaccinated. For many parents, including parents who are vaccinated themselves, this is a difficult decision given that the 5-11 year old vaccine is still in the emergency usage phase.
In addition, our state and government have yet to mandate for this age group, nor have other Los Angeles private schools. More concerning is the idea that Oakwood is also mandating continued booster shots but giving zero clarity or transparency as to how many and for how long.
The unexpected email from Oakwood laying out 30 days to get our children vaccinated and/or boosted was abrupt, unfair and non inclusive. For parents who were not ready to take this step, it leaves no time to explore options. We are asking that this deadline be extended through the end of this school year, so that regardless of the choice that parents make, the children are able to complete the year, so as not to add more instability to what has already been an incredibly challenging two years for them.
By signing this petition, you are acknowledging your support in simply asking Oakwood for more time to make this decision. Your children may already be vaccinated and boosted, already vaccinated and not yet boosted, or you may be a parent who has yet to start the vaccination process in general.

This mandate is extremely unconstitutional. The people who are distributing and making profit off this vaccine aren’t even liable for any adverse effects.
As parents we should have the option of having or not having our children get vaccinated. I’m 100% against this vaccine.
You do have that option! Just not as an Oakwood parent. There are many communities out there- find one that fits your values!
As a private institution, Oakwood can mandate whatever it wants, and you are free not to enroll. I support Oakwood and the vaccine 100%. Aa contracts go out, you can exercise your constitutional right to not enroll.
Dear Parents, How about we do it like this? You will be allowed to opt out of vaccinating your child, but only if you are able to answer three basic questions about the workings of the human body. If you answer any of the questions incorrectly, you and your kid get vaccinated on the spot. Which of the many immunologists who signed this petition is prepared to take the challenge? Get your thinking caps on!
We don’t need antivaxxers at Oakwood. Leave the school.
