Subject: Increase in 2014-15 Recurring Annual Fee’s of Grade 1-to-10 existing students, & fee policy going forward.
Dear OIS Board Member’s & Dr. Kuskovski,
We’re collectively writing to you as parents of Grades 1-to-10 existing students already part of the OIS family. We strongly believe the increase in the Recurring Annual Fee announced on 11/12/13 is both unexpected & excessive. Parents of students graduating from Grade 5 to 6 will have to bear a 35% increase!
While we agree OIS is one of the better schooling options available to our children in this city, this increase on an already high base is beyond our range-of-reason. We’re also very concerned about the fee policy going forward.
We want a reasonable & predictable fee structure that helps the school keep-up with inflation to continue providing existing students at OIS the best education, at the same time is affordable & within expectations of our initial budgets when our children started at OIS. We're proposing the following options to achieve this:
1) Revisit the 35% increase for existing Grade 5 students graduating to Grade 6. This is very steep & beyond a lot of our budgets.
2) Freeze the Recurring Annual Fee for existing students. The school can change its fee structure & policy for new incoming students to accommodate any budget shortfalls this policy creates. Schools like Ecole Mondiale & Ascend International have successfully implemented a similar approach.
3) Freeze for the next 3 academic years the Recurring Annual Fee for existing students. Increase by 12.5% after 3 years, & freeze for another 3 years. The school can change its fee structure & policy for new incoming students to accommodate any budget shortfalls this policy creates.
4) Increase the Recurring Annual Fee for all existing students by INR 20,000/year. The school can change its fee structure & policy for new incoming students to accommodate any budget shortfalls this policy creates.
5) Consider developing an alternate Corporate Fee structure for parents whose corporations/employers are paying for their children's fees. The American School has successfully implemented a similar approach.
Our goal is to create a win-win agreement between the school & the parents of the existing students at OIS. We would like to propose a dialog with you to develop a mutually beneficial option.

I have been reading through the personal notes many of you attached to your signatures and the stories about the strain this puts on our family budgets are heartbreaking. My focus right now is preparing a formal request for a sit down with the school board to present these concerns directly. We deserve clear answers about how they intend to handle these sudden costs for our children.

Seeing so many other families speak up about these unfair hikes confirms that I am not alone in my frustration. It is deeply moving to see our community unite to protect our children's futures at this school.

We are new parents. Whilst taking admission to Grade 1 and Grade 6 we know that there was an increase on fees last year. We had discussed this during our discussions with school. We were told that they do not foresee an increase in fees for the next few years at least unless absolutely necessary... Hope to find a solution which makes sense to both school and parents!
Need to look for a win-win solution. This borders on taking unfair advantage of existing students given that options to change are limited. The hike is too steep and not in line with normal inflation. The school also needs to think through with Parents on options to optimize spending to reduce overall budget burden.
Let's take the example of junior kindergarten fees they have almost doubled in the last three years, nothing neither inflation nor increase in infrastructure, facilities etc can justify such a hike and there seems to be no limit in sight, as our children go into higher classes if the fees keep rising at this rate how do we justify/afford it?
Last year, I've been told that School has increased the fees after few years and this structure would remain same for atleast next few years as this includes Inflationary adjustment, school infrastructure, and bringing new talents around. The new hike doesn’t really justify the real cause.
I am appalled to see the increase in fee, though mentioned as 10% inline with inflation in the school fee policy which is considerably acceptable, my daughter being in SKG will be moving into grade 1 coming academic year and our fees will be an exorbitant 40.63% ! This is unacceptable by any standards.

Request you to justify this steep fee hike. A 10-12% fee hike in a couple of years is doable for the parents. But if one has two or more kids studying here, with a 35% fee hike, it will be a sad situation!!
