To the members of Markham Council:

Constituents elect councillors with the expectation that they will assume their responsibility for prudent community planning with understanding and benefit which comes with regular community engagement of the neighbourhoods represented and thorough knowledge of local issues, opinions and needs both large and small, on which you base your decisions, in the best interests of the residents you represent.  Accordingly, we believe that you are best positioned and most responsible for the planning decisions which affect our local neighbourhoods.

Therefore, we fully support and endorse the Motion in its entirety put forward by Councillor Shore on March 20, 2012 calling for the removal of the Town of Markham from the jurisdiction of the Ontario Municipal Board and asking the Province of Ontario to abolish the OMB.

The momentum generated by this petition demonstrates a clear desire for local planning authority to remain within the hands of our elected council. Your collective commitment reinforces the necessity of this motion and highlights the importance of keeping community decisions local.

Finally. Its a joke that unelected people in toronto get to decide what happens to our streets here in markham. local people know whats best for their own backyards.
