An Open Letter to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly, and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow

The two hundredth day since the terrorist assault by Hamas is approaching. An assault that was characterized by rape and sexual assault along with almost every other kind of violent offense. The targeting of female victims with sexual violence has been confirmed not only by investigation after the fact but by the gleeful posts of terrorist offenders shared during this crime against humanity.
Rape is not resistance.
We write to you as women of privilege and power. We demand that you call for the immediate, unconditional release of all remaining female hostages and the bodies of those female captives that are no longer alive. The reports of freed female hostages confirm that this violation of the bodies of the female hostages is ongoing. Silence in the face of rape and sexual assault is complicity. Discussions of “trading” hostages for others is degrading to all women and people of conscience.
The coming of the Jewish holiday of Passover as well as the ongoing military support for Hamas by the Iranian regime, an autocracy that rejects the autonomy and agency of women, provide additional clarity.
We call upon you to speak up clearly and forcefully. The captivity of these victims of sexual violence must end immediately. Whether abroad or here in Canada, victims of rape and sexual assault must know that those with power hear their voices.

If you knew women who had been violently assaulted, raped, mutilated and burned would you be silent? Silence in the face of rape and sexual assault is complicity.
October 7 was a massacre. This "massacre" continues as hostages (alive or dead) are still held. What is happening and has happened to the women and girls. Where is the outrage!
Where is Canada? if it was any other religious or cultural group you’d be supporting the hate and violence. . It’s appalling how innocent people have been kidnapped by terrorist and there’s no outrage about it by our country. It saddens me to be a Canadian Jew.
Looks like it was ok not to be vocal because it was/is Israeli Jewish women. Would be a different story if it were Canadian women, black women targeted. Come on… take a stand, make yourself proud!!!
As women ALL WOMEN regardless of race or religion should demand that our FEMALE politicians state a positive and serious position publicly and demand that our Israeli hostages be returned NOW

It is unconscionable that these poor women (and, indeed, the other remaining hostages) remain in captivity for so long. Canadian leaders should be doing much more to secure their release.
