Our concerns include, but are not limited to:
- increased traffic volume on an already busy road and junction
- the fact that this is a residential conservation area
- the pedestrian footpath being crossed by a significant volume of traffic in an area between 2 schools.
Although this building is already a licensed premises, it has only ever operated as a private members' club, causing minimal disruption to the surrounding area. Any change of use application should go through full planning permission processes.
Turning this building into a retail premises would create significantly more volume and frequency of traffic in and out of the site than any other proposed use for the site, e.g. offices, care home, flats. It would set a precedent for Bargate to become a non-residential area and create danger and frustration for motorists and pedestrians alike.
