While a cemetery seems like a compatible open-space land use, this one, which will house approximately 3400 bodies on just 3 acres of land, has real potential to adversely impact the town's aquifer which provides drinking water to our residents and businesses, Although the proposed operator purports to follow environmentally friendly "green burial" protocols, which prevent the introduction of burial-related toxic chemicals and caskets into the ground, there is no protection of the aquifer from contaminants from bodies wrapped only in shrouds and placed directly into the ground.
In conclusion, until such time as the immediate threat from this project to the aquifer providing a potable water supply to the residents and businesses of Walpole has been dispelled by virtue of independent scientific analysis and learned expert opinion in the fields of hydrology, infectious diseases, and others, we strongly urge you to sign this petition against the development of the land as a cemetery.

Why take a risk with our Town Water Supply? If the town is motivated regarding the purchase of Sharon Country Day camp to protect our water supply from potential contamination of a private interest, so should there be a compelling concern with the proposed new cemetery in Walpole. The Town’s municipal water supply is irreplaceable. Any proposal to allow a Green Cemetery or any development that could contaminate Walpole’s drinking water should be rejected. This is very unsettling to read. I would like much more details from the town before any decision is reached.
This cemetery should go to another location where water contamination isn't even a remote possibility.
I run a food manufacturing business in Walpole and this proposed "cemetary" threatens our water supply as well as my livelihood and the jobs of 10 peole.
I am a Walpole resident and don't want this cemetary built here. It is not a good location as it will interfere with my water supply.
