Pressure Congress and the Senate to oppose US attacks against Pakistan!
An Open Letter from Brooklyn For Peace to our Brooklyn Congressional and Senatorial Representatives: We write to protest the attacks of the Bush Administration on Pakistan, purportedly as part of its war on terror in Afghanistan. We are troubled that you have not spoken out clearly and forcefully against this breach of another nation’s sovereignty. To quote a leading Presidential contender, “countries don’t invade other countries in the 21st Century.” Our country has been the principal offender of a well-established norm of international behavior. In addition to its immorality and illegality, this escalation of US and NATO violence against Pakistan is making us less safe in New York City. It is strengthening the alliance between the Taliban and al-Qaeda, at great risk to us here in New York. It is destabilizing the civilian government of a nuclear-armed ally in Islamabad. The disaster that has been the Bush Administration’s policy in the area will not be resolved with an escalation of violence and casualties. We urge you to be clear in your opposition to these attacks, and to help move the next administration to reduce the violence, respect international law and morality and to have a decent reckoning for our security as New Yorkers. WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE ANY U.S. MILITARY ACTION AGAINST PAKISTAN!
