Final supporters
1. Chickens make excellent pets. They are quiet and clean, and do not require a lot of space. They are entertaining and affectionate, and teach children responsibility in caring for animals.
2. Chickens are effectively illegal in Beachwood, OH. They are legal in many surrounding communities.
3. If every family in America had 2 chickens attached to their kitchen, the commercial egg industry in this country (an industry which is cruel and inhumane) would be completely abolished, and landfill garbage would be reduced by half.
4. Chickens eat just about anything. They can be fed almost all of your kitchen scraps, and as a reward, they will lay you fresh eggs loaded with nutrients.
5. If the ordinance is not changed, the City of Beachwood will take away our chickens, who are our pets and are part of our family fabric.

The momentum we have built makes it clear that Beachwood officials cannot ignore us much longer. They think they can just push their archaic rules onto our families, but they have no idea how hard we are willing to fight for our chickens.

My hens are clean, quiet and odorless and I'm sure their's are, too. There is no reason to take these pets from their owners.
Chickens have always been an essential part of American self-sufficiency. They have so many wonderful benefits (food, recycling scraps, pets) and absolutely no downside. If dogs and cats are allowed, it seems rather arbitrary to disallow chickens. We certainly love ours.
The Mayerfeld Chicken are such a nice addition to the neighborhood. My kids love going over to visit the chickens , they are always kept neat and tidy, with no odors. Hope to have this nice neighborhood edition around for a long time Thanks you Yael Flank , resident iof Beachwood Ohio
With all due respect, I would think Beachwood city officials have bigger fish to fry than removing these chickens from their home and their responsible family! The ordinance should be changed to allow a minimal number of chickens per location in our community.
My boys love to go to the Mayerfelds and play with their chickens. It is such a unique experience for so many neighborhood children, it would be a real shame to take that opportunity away from so many children.
Why Beachwood thinks chickens are more harmful than dogs? Children learn responsibility and more from raising chickens. However, people walking dogs can take the entire driving lane which disrupts the traffic.

Anything that teaches kids how to care for and value animals, and helps them understand where food comes from should not only not be illegal but should be supported and encouraged by local government.
