PETITION FOR FUNDAMENTAL FAIRNESS IN STATE AID SCHOOL FUNDING

for MONROE TOWNSHIP, MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY

We, the undersigned, are residents of Monroe Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey. We join with the Monroe Township Board of Education and the Township of Monroe in their continuing fight for fundamental fairness in state aid school funding. We hereby support and endorse the resolution of the Monroe Township Board of Education, which was adopted by the Board at the Board’s Special Meeting on March 29, 2017 and which supported and endorsed the legislative initiatives of Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblyman Daniel Benson, as set forth in their letter to the Governor, Speaker and Senate President dated March 22, 2017 (“Letter”) to:

  • Eliminate growth limitations and hold harmless provisions in the school funding formula in the current budget cycle to provide additional state aid to the Monroe Township School District;
  • Reform the school funding formula in the current budget cycle to provide additional state aid to the Monroe Township School District; and
  • Design and legislate a new funding formula, which will create more equitable state aid school funding for the Monroe Township School District.

We, the undersigned, implore Governor Christie and the New Jersey Legislature to take immediate action to address this critical state aid school funding issue in accordance with the Letter. The Letter and the Board’s resolution are attached to this petition and are also available for review on the District website.
