The Operator,

RSTC,

University of Ghana Shuttle Service,

14th November, 2016.

Dear Sir,

PETITION TO BE CONSIDERATE IN INCREASING UNIVERSITY OF GHANA SHUTTLE FARES OPERATED BY RSTC BEGINNING NEXT SEMESTER 2017.

We remain approbate and lavish in our praise for the services that RSTC shuttles render to the students here on campus. Your services are great, and they demand great appreciation. In fact, RSTC has come to relieve us from a lot of stress in commuting on campus. We could not have said any better expression for your good services.

For the period that RSTC has been operating on campus, the fares charged students have been increasing with time, mostly at the beginning of every semester. We students could not complain any bitter because of the quality service that we benefit from RSTC.

It has come to our notice again that, beginning next semester, there would be an upward review of the fares charged from GHC 0.70 to between GHC1.00 and GHC1.50. This would be an increment of GHC0.30 to GHC0.80 on the current rate. We students could not find any word to register our strong displeasure with such news. In as much as we appreciate your service on campus, we are also alarmed at the exorbitant charges that RSTC is continuing to charge us students for even short distances because the rate is same for all destinations on campus.

Information in our circles indicate that the increase is intended to raise revenue in order to defray an operational loss of GHC358, 000.00 that has been incurred. We share in this concern because we want the best for RSTC.

However, our displeasure is that, RSTC has refused to acknowledge the economic burden this is going to have on students. We are quick to add that, justification for increment could only be accepted in the eventuality that fuel prices go up. We also understand that the lost was incurred as a result of RSTC’s inability to calculate the right prices to charge, hence the continual pricing based on assumptions which have culminated in the revenue lost.

In the light of all this however, we humbly want to plead that the new increment in shuttle fares should very be thoughtful, and we want to plead with RSTC not to use any dubious means of making excessive profit from students.

We are assured that your office would stand up and fight for the welfare of students.

Thank you,

Yours in student service,

Pascal H Agbesi
