Re: Combined Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact
and Intent to Request Release of Funds
The Standard at East River by Ojala Holdings
March 25, 2020
We demand that the City of Houston remove its support and not ask for the
release of $15,000,000 HUD funds for this Ojala Project.
1. Noise. We reject the City of Houston claim that noise at this project will be
below HUD guidelines.
2. Contamination and Toxic Substances. We reject the City of Houston assertion that air contamination from new I-69 elevated highway bridges is not relevant. Living next to freeways increases asthma, heart attacks, strokes, lung cancer and pre-term births.
3. Floodplain. We oppose the City of Houston plan to use federal housing dollars to purchase and take title to any land below the 500 year flood plain, especially when such land will be donated to a nonprofit. Why pay for property and then give it away?
4. The City Notice does not mention that children living on this property will attend failed schools, and that 85 more low income apartments will be squeezed into a neighborhood already packed with 447 low income apartments.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PROJECT WITH $15,000,000 OF OUR TAX DOLLARS
