The commissioners finally backed off and confirmed the status of our range. It has been a long and draining fight but I am relieved we kept this space open for everyone who depends on it. We will keep watching how they handle this in the future.

Final supporters
Whereas: The citizens of Kitsap County, like all Americans, have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and the state:
Whereas: Like other rights, firearms ownership comes with great responsibility requiring an adequate facility to train, practice and hone these skills, thereby protecting the rights of all individuals;
Whereas: Having served our community continuously and safely since 1926, Kitsap Rifle & Revolver Club (KRRC) is the only resource in Kitsap county providing a training facility and expert instruction specifically for the shooting sports and national defense;
Therefore, we the undersigned request that the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) take the following actions;
1. Reject the current proposed shooting range ordinance and instead follow the Pierce County Council model and enact a Shooting Range Protection ordinance;
2. Pass a resolution restating the grandfathered status of KRRC and defending the letter of understanding, and the purchase and sale agreement that BOCC entered into with KRRC in 1993 and 2009 respectively.

Seeing this level of support start to build feels like a heavy weight being lifted. It is exhausting work to keep fighting for these grounds year after year but knowing I am not fighting alone makes it possible to keep showing up.

People who move to an area and expect the area to adapt to them ruin opportunity for others. If you don't want to hear shooting, don't move near a gun range, seems simple enough...
Gun clubs provide a safe place for families to shoot and enjoy the shooting sports as well as qualified instructors to train safe firearms handling. Gun clubs also help the enviorment by providing a centralized place for shooters where the lead can be recycled.
With no experience in shooting prior to visiting the range with my husband, my knowledge of weapons was quite limited. After superb guidance from my husband and the staff, I feel much safer handling a pistol and would return to Kitsap Rifle & Revolver to help teach my kids when they are of age.
I've been growing here since I was just a child, it is THE safest place to shoot and I've been to the 4 corners of the continental US. Highly trained staff, high quality facilities, and the atmosphere that safety comes first will keep me returning for the rest of my life.
Why would you take away a gun range that has been in the county for decades?! Let people continue shooting where it is safer and not on back roads or DNR lands where there is high traffic for horseback riders, ORV riders and hunters.

This is a great organization that has been a supporter of the military and law enforcement agencies in Washington. It would be a serious loss to the community, the military and law enforcement agencies if they were to be shutdown. I will pass this on to others who are law abiding citizens, gun owners and law enforcement officers.
