Petition to remove the enhanced crosswalks and reinstate parking spaces
In August 2019, Community Board 8, City Councilman Cohen agreed to the request of a handful of residents, to install enhanced crosswalks on Hudson Manor Terrace from 235th Street through 239th Street.
Additionally, in alliance with Councilman Cohen's office and Community Board 8, the NYC Department of Transportation has also removed numerous street parking spaces, in an area which currently suffers from severe lack of street parking and inadequate affordable garages.
The installation of the enhanced crosswalks and the removal of parking spaces has now made street parking unobtainable for those of us who depend on having street parking. These changes have devastated the neighborhood and have weakened any future saleability of our homes. Due to this degrading of our community, we will also be requesting the Community Board and the DOT to issue permit parking for the area.
We must remind City Councilman Cohen and Community Board 8 that they were chosen to work in the best interest of the community and all of their constituents and not just a handful of embittered residents. It is obvious that neither is doing an acceptable job of representing the residents of Riverdale.
It is time to fight back and stand up for our rights and not allow ineffective governing to destroy the quality of our neighborhood. We are asking those residents affected by these changes to sign the petition and if possible to attend the next meeting to have our voices heard.
If we choose to not get involved and stand up for our rights, there will be no recourse as to what additional harm they can do to our community.
