PETITION TO REMOVE AND/OR REASSIGN THE CURRENT PRINCIPAL (Tammy George) AND HER HAND-PICKED ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ( Christopher Edwards) FROM WILLIAMSON HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE GRADES PREPARATORY ACADEMY (WHS&MGPA)

Williamson High School was established in 1916 as a neighborhood school in the historic Maysville Community. As a result of its longevity and endurance in serving the citizenry of this legendary community and the logistics of its founding, it has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

For 108 years, WHS has survived the challenges and turmoil of rezoning, changes in state divisional classification, a lack of needed resources and funding, inadequate facilitation, and ineffective leadership for decades. Of greatest concern from this list is “ineffective leadership”.

Currently, the leadership qualities, or the lack thereof, as exemplified by the current administrator, Tammy George and her hand-picked assistant, Christopher Edwards, are unacceptable as observed and witnessed by students, teachers, parents, WHS Alumni, and the citizenry of the Maysville Community. In particular, this administration has failed to communicate a clear vision for the academic success particular to the culture of students served at WHS&MGPA ( outside of the one-paragraph mission statement adopted by the MCPSS...hence there is “No One Size Fits All’ approach to the academic success in regards to particular needs of students. This administration has failed to involve parents, community members and alumni in open and transparent communication and collaborative decision-making in making important school decisions. In addition, it has demonstrated a hesitancy in welcoming and returning phone calls in keeping the lines of communication open among those parties indicated above.

The Williamson High School Alumni Advocacy Group was established in the year, 2014. This was the year the MCPSS unilaterally decided to merge Williamson High School with Mae Eanes Middle School. We warned then of the problems that this merger would create. We are yet reminding the MCPSS of the negatve results incurred as a result of this merger. We are the voice of the voiceless. We seek solutions to current and on-going problems effecting the academic, moral and personal success of each and every student and family of WHS&MGPA.

Because of the ineffective and autocratic leadership patterns exhibited by the current principal, Tammy George and her hand-picked assistant, Christopher Edwards, the parents, students, alumni and citizenry of the Maysville community have gained no trust in building a productive partnership to ultimately improve student outcomes and creating a positive school culture and enhancing community and alumni engagement. For these reasons and the specific reasons listed below, we are asking that you support our “PETITION TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE AND/OR REASSIGN THE CURRENT PRINCIPAL AND HER HAND-PICKED ASSISTANT, CHRISTOPER EDWARDS FROM THE THEIR LEADERSHIP DUTIES AT WHS&MGPA”.

SPECIFIC AND IMMEDIATE CONCERNS ABOUT THIS ADMINISTRATION ARE AS FOLLOWS:

• HARRASSMENT OF COACHES, TEACHERS AND ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL IN CARRYING-OUT THEIR DAY-DAY DUTIES
• POSTPONING AND RESTRICTING ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS AT LIBERTY, CAUSING UPHEAVAL IN PARENT SCHEDULES AND FINANCES AS WELL AS DECREASED ATHLETE AND STUDENT MORALITY
• FAILURE TO INVOLVE ALUMNI, PARENTS, COMMUNITY IN ESSENTIAL DECISION-MAKING
• FAILURE TO ACCEPT AND RETURN PHONE CALLS OR PERSONAL VISITS FROM CONCERNED AND AUTHORIZED PERSONS
• FAILURE TO BUILD AND FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS AMONG PARENTS, ALUMNI AND CITIZENRY
