Petition to Return Nick Pearson to Boston Latin Academy
For more than five years Nick Pearson has been a well known substitute teacher at Boston Latin Academy in Boston, Massachusetts. He has covered for many teachers and many of the students have grown quite fond of Mr. Pearson. The students call him "Mr. Smiley", a nickname which he acquired prior to working with Latin Academy because of his very positive attitude and the constant smile on his face. During the five years that Mr. Pearson worked in BLA, he rarely had to deal with any problems with his students. It was clear that the student admired Pearson as much as he admired them all. However, one day in March of 2010, a small altercation erupted between two young men in the 8th grade. Mr. Pearson was shocked by the sudden fight that erupted and quickly attempted to stop the fight before any student got hurt. In response to the situation, the headmaster of the high school subsequently decided that Nick Pearson was no longer allowed to cover for any absent teacher in Boston Latin Academy ever again, a decision that was made without any sort of appeal or hearing what-so-ever. This petition was created in hope that the Boston Public Schools and Boston Latin Academy administration will see that the students, teachers, alumni, and affiliates of Boston Latin Academy, as well as the loved ones of Nick Pearson admire him and are fortunate to have him as a substitute teacher in their school. Nick Pearson loves Boston Latin Academy and Boston Latin Academy loves Mr. Smiley. There is no way that we will stand and watch a great man experience this kind of injustice.
