The Fairmount neighborhood has many smaller side streets emptying onto Poplar Street, a busy thoroughfare for cars excessively speeding, making exiting our streets dangerous. There are also cars that park on corners, adding to the danger because seeing around them is difficult. A speed study has been requested, which hopefully will include a survey from 30th St to Corinthian, ticket #891852, in the hope that speed bumps or stop signs will be incorporated in the near future. We are asking the Philadelphia Streets Dept to survey our neighborhood to determine the best way to address our concerns. Thank you for bringing this petition to the attention of the Chief Traffic Engineer for Philadelphia.

The volume of support for this petition has gained the attention of the Streets Department. I am currently preparing a formal letter to the Chief Traffic Engineer to request a meeting regarding traffic calming measures for Poplar Street.

It is very difficult to turn onto Poplar from the small side streets, especially as the car has to be far enough into the intersection to be able to see cars coming. A couple more stop signs on Poplar between 24th and Corinthian would be nice to have.

Speed humps would be a great addition on Poplar west of 29th to Sedgely Drive. I've witnessed multiple accidents & people blow through the stop sign at 30th Street.

I lived for many years on Poplar near 25th Street so I am very aware of the need for speed bumps and/or stop signs. The trolley tracks add to the problem.

I live at the corner of Taney and Poplar. I regularly witness accidents involving people turning onto Poplar from south on Taney and accidents involving people turning north onto Taney from both directions on Poplar. Drivers speed down this street with blind corners at every small street entering Poplar. I have had many close calls as a driver, pedestrian, and biker. It is an unsafe roadway with many pedestrians trying to access public transportation of the trolley and busses and drivers pulling out into a street without visual confirmation that the road is clear for them to do so.

Poplar street is a speedway and is dangerous not only to cars pulling out from Bucknell but to anyone (child or adult) trying to cross.

I wholeheartedly agree with concerns about vehicles speeding and running stop signs on Poplar Street. I have nearly been hit both as a driver exiting onto Poplar from my own street (22nd) and the other side streets, and also as a pedestrian, walking, running, and biking along Poplar. Please help us make this route safer for everyone, drivers and pedestrians alike! Thank you in advance, Kelly

Please also consider putting a light in at 20th and poplar. Very dangerous intersection!
