Power House Aspen Science Center
The Aspen Science Center seeks to convert the Old Power House to a world-class discovery center for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with programs for pre-school to adults in a wide range of subjects including astronomy, biology, chemistry, computers, electronics, mechanics, and physics. This plan will educate and inspire our children, enhance Aspen’s image, and broaden its attraction to people from all over the world.
The Center will provide a vehicle for non-profits in the Valley (e.g., ACES, Roaring Fork River Conservancy, Wilderness Workshop, Aspen Music Festival) to develop programs in science, arts, & creativity. It will be a community resource, including facilities like a café for community gatherings, and will seek broad community input in designing programs and activities. The Center will actively work with other non-profits to offer space for a variety of community activities. It will include an outdoor science park exploring the environment, geology, motion, energy, music, sky, water, light, sound, wind, weather, and other topics.
We the undersigned citizens of the Roaring Fork Valley strongly support this endeavor and urge the Aspen City Council to lease the Old Power House to the Aspen Science Center to create the facility described above.
