**Update 12/5/17: Although Kemps had withdrawn from planned development, the Oronoco CC is still allowing the land owner to pursue rezoning of these parcels. We need to continue to make our collective voice heard about the concern of spot zoning and the unprecedented nature of this proposal being directly adjacent to R1 residential. This petition is seeking support of Oronoco residents to oppose the proposal being considered by the city council to rezone three parcels of land east off Minnesota Avenue and Gas n Go. Cedar Woodlands neighborhood is united in opposition to the proposed development of a 300,000 sq ft industrial cold storage facility that would be developed if this rezoning effort was to pass. The parcels within this land are currently zoned as a mixture of R2 residential and B2 hwy business district.
This change would result in a significant increase of semi-truck trailer traffic per day, along with increased noise, lights, and potential safety risks to neighborhood families. I met with city planning staff today to discuss the procedural flaws in the current rezoning application. We are preparing a formal brief that highlights how this proposal violates existing residential zoning protections. Expect a summary of the next public hearing requirements once I receive the official response from the council.

I oppose the rezoning. My house sits right across the road from this area, the traffic is already ungodly at the stop sign/high way intersection. Adding Semi's and increased traffic is not a good idea in this area!! Lets keep it residential...Isn't Elk Run further down 52 Zoned for Commercial/Industrial??
Changing the zoning from R1/2 and B1/2 to M1 for this parcel of land is detrimental to the residents of Oronoco. Spot zoning manufacturing facilities into residential neighborhoods will decrease the quality of life for the families and their children due to the pollution of noise, lighting and increased large truck traffic.
We specifically chose to buy our home because of the tranquil family oriented neighborhood have. The City of Oronoco publicly claims to be a champion of families and the fact that this is even being considered goes against everything this city supposedly stands for.
I don’t believe this is a beneficial addition to the neighborhood. Cold Storage facilities are meant for industrialized areas and this is a quiet residential area. I don’t see how this benefits Oronoco in any way.
We chose the Cedar Woodlands neighborhood based in part on Oronoco's future land use plan map which includes R2 residential buffer between single family homes and commercial property. Please vote no to M1 spot zoning next to existing homes.
I do not think this land should be rezoned with the neighborhood this close!

Please don’t make our nice residential community into an eyesore. We moved to Oronoco to get out of the “city” now a piece of it wants to move onto the land we see deer and wild life...no thank you!
