In the U.S., large coffee manufacturers do not actively offer brewed fair trade coffee in their stores. These companies (i.e. Starbucks) should work with their customers to help the farmers in the developing countries maintain their way of life. Many of these farmers receive profits that are far below the cost of production and this forces the farmers into a life of poverty and debt. Companies such as Starbucks should their commitment to fair trade coffee so that a fair trade brew is offered in order to support the farmers who harvest the coffee. The U.S. government should help to promote fair trade by initiating outreach programs.
