Dear NTU hall office,

Most of us intend to stay in hall for 4 to 5 months. Yet we are being charged $80 for 6 months of electricity which is overcharging.

Assumptions:

• The power consumption of least energy efficient mini-fridge (1 tick) is 70W.
• The average electricity tariff in Singapore is 25 cents/kWh.
• Most fridges uses compressors that on and off automatically according to temperature. Assume fridges are off 30% of the time.

Hence, the electrical cost for 5 months is 70 W / 1000 x 24 hr x 30 days x 5 months x 0.25 cents/kWh x 70% = $44.1.

Yet, we are being charged $80 for 4 to 5 months usage which is almost a 100% markup on cost. We hope that NTU hall office can pro-rate the electrical charges in order to reduce the cost of living for students.
