The decision taken by the majority of Co. Clare's County Councillors in relation to commercial rates hike of 11% has the potential to destroy the Town of Ennis. This anti business and economically disastrous decision has to be resisted and over turned. The fact that the majority of Councillors who voted in favour of this regressive raise in commercial rates has to be examined carefully and the suitability of some of these Councillors to vote in matters concerning Ennis Town has to be questioned. Councillors who have little or nothing to do with Ennis Town and are not in business or have never had a business are in my opinion unsuitable and out of touch in relation to modern day business and economic decisions concerning Ennis Town . I am calling for each Councillor that voted for the increase to make a statement explaining his/her decision that potentially could destroy many Ennis based businesses and their employees employment. Critical decisions taken in Government a decade ago destroyed "Our Country", we cannot allow similar mistakes to destroy "Our Town". Councillors need to change their decision or we need to change the Councillors.
