Ohio wildlife areas in DANGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wildlife area in Delaware Ohio has been farmed to the extreme. By my estimations about half of the wildlife area has been placed in crop rotation programs with the last of the true upland hunting fields being taken out last week. This is almost every tillable acre they could get. Please see the red on the map which is in farm programs and the brown which is hardwoods. The ODNR Divison One office states that on this ground they will farm corn, beans, wheat with timothy grass and then leave the timothy grass for three years before the cycle starts over. The next to last picture shows how the great practice works (notice how easy it is to turn back to farm ground). They have even taken the pheasant forever grounds, prairie grass fields, and briar thickets. The entire wildlife area is left barren without habitat. Please check your local wildlife areas as I know they have started similar practices on Big Island, Willard, and Spencer lake wildlife areas. If you do not want farm fields and would like to have true habitat and wildlife in your local wildlife area please call or email the odnr immediately and tell them to stop this process and manage true habitat. 1-800-945-3543 or email wildinfo@dnr.state.oh.us.
