Protect our Children and Save Kerb Craft
Kerbcraft - A National Strategy for Child Pedestrian Safety. Kerb Craft has till now been financed by the Welsh Assembly they are now cutting the funding by 21%. Since Kerbcraft has been introduced there have been no fatalities or serious accidents outside schools and statistics prove that KSI(Killed or serious injured) are greatly reduced where Kerb Craft is in operation. Kerb Craft is greatly valued by parents and head teachers. Kerb Craft is used in 31 schools through out the borough, with over 1,150 pupils being trained by the 150 volunteers supported by Council Officers to assist and reduce accidents outisde our schools. As a concerned parent who feels this is a fundemental part of a young childs education for life, i am calling for Wrexham Council to look at making up the short fall to protect the children through out the borough. Kerbcraft teaches children aged from 5-7 how to be safer pedestrians by taking them onto real roads and showing them how the right decision-making and behaviour can really help them to keep safe. The children are taken out of school by trained volunteers, in groups of no more than three, to learn three main skills: 1. Choosing Safe Places and Routes to Cross the Road 2.Crossing Safely at Parked Cars 3.Crossing Safely Near Junction
