Dear Constituents,

As you know, over the past few years the state legislature and Governor Malloy have helped Bridgeport—they’ve granted our city new pre-K slots, helped us reopen Pleasure Beach, and provided grants to make housing more affordable and accessible.

However, the proposed budgets unfairly shortchanges Bridgeport residents, particularly members in our district.

There are proposed cuts to the state’s Medicaid program, which would force almost 2,300 Bridgeport residents onto the healthcare exchange. There are proposed cuts to important job training programs, including those that help the long term unemployed. There are proposed cuts to important programs for children, including the Lighthouse Afterschool program and Head Start Early Childhood. There are also proposed cuts to other important citywide institutions, including Beardsley Zoo and the Discovery Museum.

We need your support. By signing this petition, you are sending a message to the state of Connecticut and asking for proposed cuts that affect the city of Bridgeport to be restored in the final budget. We can’t balance the budget on our state’s largest city, and other towns and cities that are the economic engines of our state.

Sincerely,

East Side NRZ
