The school finally agreed to unlock the doors and restore our sports club. Those empty lanes will be filled with our community again because you refused to let this space disappear.

Final supporters
Rishworth Sports Club was closed suddenly and unexpectedly by Rishworth School on Thursday 7 April at 9.15 p.m. without any consultation or warning to the club staff, members and others users. No explanation for the closure has been offered. We are urging Rishworth School to reconsider this shocking decision.
Rishworth School opened the club to members in 2007. The club was officially opened by the Princess Anne. For the past 9 years the facilities have been used by the local community. (Prior to this, the pool was used by many members of the community for some 30 years). Over 500 members swam, many daily, and others used the gym. The club provided a safe environment for members, some of whom are elderly, vulnerable and disabled. This closure has ripped the heart out of the local community who have now lost a valuable, well used facility.
Rishworth School, please give us our club back and help make a difference to the lives of local people!

Seeing 250 names on this list reminds me exactly why our pool meant so much to the seniors and families in our neighborhood. I never imagined this many of you would rally behind me to fight for a place that feels like home. We are just getting started.

Seeing 100 people back this felt like a punch to the gut because it confirms I am not the only one grieving the loss of our pool. This place was the center of my week and I refuse to let it stay shuttered without a fight.

Parent of pupils of the school and also suporter of the village and local area it's wrong for the school to take away what is an asset to the village without any reason , I wonder what they will do with the sport England community grant that helped fund it ??
My husband has parkinsons and has been advised to keep mobile.. As a member of the rishworth sports facilities foe over 30 years we are appalled at the abrupt and unexpected decision to close the club also leaving us out of pocket.
It has been recommended to join this swimming pool club, however I am very disappointed to discover that it has been closed. Even worse Sowerby Bridge swimming pool is now so busy with all thexex Rishworth club swimmers it is no longer an enjoyable experience.
A real shame it closed as myself and my son enjoyed our weekend swimming. Was only a member for 3 months before it closed and as of yet not had a refund on the annual subscription I paid or any further communications which is disappointing.
We came down twice a week as a family, ever since our children were babies. We have made some lovely friends down at the sportsclub as have our children. It was a lovely safe, friendly environment and we miss it greatly.
I think it is an absolute disgrace and whats more the school use the club as a key marketing tool (as a previous boarding parent I know) - this is now a false sale. They need to re-open this more than ever given their atrocious A-level results which are the worst yet and even worse than last year which were the worst in over 12 years.

having used the pool for more than 20years I am very saddened that it is closed to the local community. Being one of the older members I will very much miss the exercise and as a none driver will find it difficult to travel further afield.
