Rebuild the Twin Towers
As members of the general public, we urge you to approve rebuilding the World Trade Center; including the Twin Towers. Here are just a few of the many reasons we think this would be a good idea: 1. The Twin Towers brought significant tourism revenue and vitality to Lower Manhattan. 2. Lesser buildings could very well send the message to terroists that we are conforming our way of life as a result of this hideous act. 3. Far from being dangerous, the Twin Towers took the impacts of those 767s and stood for nearly an hour, due to a simple, yet highly effective design. It was the jet-fueled fires that caused the buildings to fail. The delay between impact and collapse saved possibly thousands of lives, as did the \"implosion\" of the structure. The World Trade Center was not attacked because its Twin Towers were 110 stories. It was attacked for what it stood for: our way of life. Here are the words of its architect, Minoru Yamasaki: \"World trade means world peace and consequently the World Trade Center buildings in New York...had a bigger purpose than just to provide room for tenants. The World Trade Center is a living symbol of man\'s dedication to world peace...beyond the compelling need to make this a monument to world peace, the World Trade Center should, because of its importance, become a representation of man\'s belief in humanity, his need for individual dignity, his beliefs in the cooperation of men, and through cooperation, his ability to find greatness.\" We support and advocate the inclusion of an on-site memorial. Indeed, human decency calls for such. We hope you would consider the points above and approve the rebuilding of the World Trade Center; including the Twin Towers. Sincerely,
