Recent studies estimate that we use an astounding 129 billion face masks globally every month -- that is 3 million a minute. 99% of these are discarded and end up in landfills and our oceans. Sign this petition to help implement a Mask Recycling program on CSULB's campus and help reduce our environmental impact!
We plan on implementing recycling bins specifically for masks throughout the campus. We will send these masks to 3rd party companies (like Terracycle) which reduce masks into their raw materials and are then recycled into other products.

I was walking past the library earlier and honestly it is kind of wild seeing all these masks blowing around in the wind because we really should have a proper way to handle this waste by now. I have been emailing the facilities office to see if they would even entertain the idea of those specialized collection bins but so far the inbox is just crickets which is honestly expected but still annoying.

I really never thought this many people would actually click the button because sometimes it feels like we just scream into the void about these giant heaps of plastic waste. My laptop screen is blurry right now from staring at all these notifications and it honestly feels like we might actually get those bins on campus if we keep riding this wave of energy (I already have a drafts folder full of emails to the facilities office so I guess it is go time).
