Reducing Fuels and Increasing Evacuation Readiness in Lake Francis Estates Community
Dobbins has been identified in the NEU 2021 Fire Plan as one of the areas listed as High-Severity Zone.
The roadside fuel reduction will reduce the ignition probability, allow emergency services to egress/ingress, and safe evacuation of residents in case of wildfire for this community.
Creating a 150 ft fuel break around the community is a vital element to mitigate fire hazard. The Lake
Francis Estates residents are aggressively pursuing to be a Firewise Community. In cooperation with the
Yuba Fire Safety Council, the community-initiated wildfire mitigation advisor visits to prepare their
homes, community meetings to coordinate efforts, and roadside clearing. The Fuel break will be for two
thickly forested areas with high-density of vegetation bordering the community. These high fuel
vegetation areas are less than 10 feet from structures/homes.
This project is designed to contribute significantly to wildfire prevention in Dobbins -Oregon House area
by reducing wildfire intensity and rate of spread, reducing fuel loading, improving public safety for
egress of evacuating residents. In cooperation with the Dobbins Oregon House Fire Protection District (DOHFPD) it is our intention to apply for Wildfire Hazard Prevention Grants to support our project.
