Global Minorities Alliance demands release of Blasphemy-accused Saawan Masih & Aasia Bibi of Pakistan
GLOBAL MINORITIES ALLIANCE (www.globalminorities.co.uk) demands RELEASE OF SAWAN MASIH & AASIA BIBI--Pakistani Christians falsely accused of Blasphemy
Angry mob in Pakistan on Saturday, March 9, 2013 set fire to over hundred Christians’ houses and shops in St. Joseph colony in Lahore, the eastern city of Pakistan over ‘blasphemy’. The trouble began when Shahid Imran accused his former Christian friend, Sawan Masih of committing ‘blasphemy’. Fearing trouble Masih fled his home. According to our sources in Pakistan the Punjab police arrested Chaman Masih, the father of the blasphemy-accused. The police later arrested Sawan Masih and lodged First Information Report (FIR) without launching any probe to determine whether or not Masih had committed blasphemy. As rumor spread that Masih had committed blasphemy a highly enraged mob of 3000 people attacked the St. Joseph Christian colony. Our sources in Pakistan said that the chemical used by the miscreants was highly inflammable that evoked the painful memories of blasphemy-related violence in Gojra in 2009. Eight Pakistani Christians were burnt alive in Gojra, a small town in the province Punjab of Pakistan, over blasphemy rumors. We urge Pakistan to release Saawan Masih. We also urge Pakistan to release Aasia bibi, mother of five falsely accused of blasphemy in Pakistan over 'blasphemy'. She was arrested in June 2009.
