Remove Pre-packaged PB&J at Hollyrood!!!
Hello Hollyrood Families,
Many of our very-loved children at BC Fernwood and Hollyrood have life-threatening allergies to nuts and seeds. As you are well aware, Kindergarteners and 1st graders are eating in their classrooms. This poses a unique problem for those kids who have life-threatening food allergies. We thank you and your children for working to ensure all kids are safe in their classrooms.
In August 2013, a 13 year-old child died in the Sacramento area, prompting a district-wide eradication of all pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from the menus of 39 district elementary schools. Despite the changes to Hollyrood and the many adjustments made by all of you, PPS Nutrition Services has yet to make any accommodations. They continue to supply pre-packaged, nutrition-less Smucker's Uncrustables PB&J to Hollyrood every day for consumption in classrooms where children may have life-threatening reactions. We are asking for your support in asking PPS Nutrition Services to do their part in protecting the lives of all our kids at school by offering a safe & nutritious alternative to the current PB&J offering.
Given the risk to children's lives and the current efforts to minimize this risk at the school, should PPS find a safer alternative to the PB&J menu option for lunch?
Please sign if you agree that PPS should provide a safer alternative to the PB&J “alternate” option for children at Beverly Cleary Hollyrood.
