On Friday 27th June businesses along the Goring Road Car Park received a piece of paper stating:

"Recently, local residents have been in touch with us over the condition of the Goring Road car park. Having taken the opportunity to fully assess it, we have decided to temporarily close the car park while a decision is made about its future.

The funds for resurfacing this car park have been identified in our annual budget and we are working to bring the site up the priority list. Additionally, we're considering further options for the site's future, which may include sale - more information will be available in due course.

Fencing will be put up this afternoon around the section of the car park that we own (access to the homes and businesses will, of course, be maintained). There are free on-street parking spaces as well as lay-bys nearby which should maintain parking access for residents, businesses and visitors alike."

We believe that the car park can remain open whilst they are deciding on it's fate. The closure of the car park was without warning and has already had a dramatic effect on businesses. The free street parking simply cannot cope with the amount of people trying to access it. The Goring Road Car Park was in constant use and it is such a shame that the Council have not realised this.

Support local business by signing the petition!

Thank you.

***UPDATE***

The council have opened a few spaces on the west side of the car park! Thank you all for your support so far, however we still think there is more to be unearthed here, so keep signing!

Updates

July 16, 2014

I have requested a formal meeting with the council planning department to review the impact of this closure on local revenue. Several business owners are currently compiling data on foot traffic changes to present during that discussion.

The volume of support for this petition has gained significant momentum. I am currently coordinating a formal meeting with council representatives to present these signatures and demand a plan for reopening the site.

Ridiculous. Where are we supposed to park now? The street is already packed every single day.

FIX IT AND OPEN IT BACK UP. The council makes everything so difficult.

I tried to pop into the pet shop earlier and had to drive away because there was literally nowhere to stop. Very frustrating for everyone.

Please just resurface it and leave it open. Don't sell it off for housing or whatever else they have planned.

The local shops are already struggling as it is. Closing the car park is just going to kill them off completely.

Total madness. They clearly havent a clue how many people use this spot daily.
