They actually dropped the proposal and I am honestly kind of shocked but so thankful we pushed back so hard. Those 479 signatures really put the pressure on them to stop ignoring what the residents want for our neighborhood. I need to get some sleep but we should probably keep …

  • There is a request for an amendment to Zoning to create a Renewable Energy Overlay District as well as add language related to Affordable Housing and Floating Zones. This proposal refers to land in between Brown Ave, Hopkins Ave and Windsor Ave., and the area between Greenville Ave, Rt. 44 and Rt 295 S. The proposed changes would give developers of renewable energy sites the ability to do whatever they want without resident input. This proposal would remove the requirement that each Renewable Energy Project Proposal be subject to review and input by residents.
Therefore, we oppose the passage of this ordinance.

I was looking at the total sitting there and we are honestly just a breath away from two hundred fifty signatures which feels like a major hurdle for us to clear right now. If you have been waiting for the right moment to ping your neighbors or drop a link in a group chat then please just do it because honestly this feels like it could really tilt things in our favor if we actually keep the momentum going.

Years ago, a developer failed in his attempt to construct 'affordable housing' along Brown Avenue...thanks to a neighbor. Later, the state's proposal to build a water park on state property was quashed. We need to do the same with this proposed zoning change and preserve these woods and open lands.

All this with do is lower the property value for all of us- In addition, it will highly increase traffic flow through our neighborhood. We are completely against this happening.

No. I respect economic growth and think that we (the Town) should continue to review each project on a case by case to assess how it will help benefit the town but to blindly change the zoning to allow anything in the future in my opinion can not be allowed to happen.

No, I do not want acres of trees mowed down to install solar panels or windmills in this area. I moved to Brown Ave for the trees, farms and wildlife. This part of town is beautiful and historic and should be preserved. And we as residents absolutely should have a say in what happens in our own backyard.

I've lived on Brown Ave my entire life and when I requested to build my own house 13 years ago, the planning board put me through hell and requested all types of crazy proposals that I needed to do. Now they want to give everything away and allow developers to do whatever they want. Also, what about all the animals that call these woods their home? No, I strongly oppose this.

If we as a town are going to create a space to make it easier for renewable energy lets put it in industrial zones. It should not be made easier to develop residential lands for large scale energy production.

No more building in Johnston. People moved here because it wasn’t a big city. Now it’s all big chains, cookie cutter houses and banks. No more building without residents approval!
