Residents Against Street Light Pollution (AA-Saline/Maple intersection)
Several residents of the Bella Vista community are concerned with the Pittsfield Township Board of Trustee's proposal of three street lights at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline and Maple Roads. Residents whose properties will be affected by the light pollution are completely against the proposal made by the Board of Trustees and are seeking the support from the rest of the community. (This petition is specifically against streetlights OUTSIDE of the Bella Vista community at the traffic light at AA-Saline and Maple Rd. intersection.)
Having streetlights at this location will affect several neighbors in a variety of ways. Purchasing a home in this location provided a sense of city and country living. Bella Vista residents are conveniently close to shopping and activities, but are surrounded by thick trees and wildlife with minimal light and noise pollution. Introduction of these three streetlights do not pose any benefit, but rather cause light pollution issues for residents and wildlife within close proximity. Benefits of having streetlights will be lost on this particular location for several reasons.
- There is barely any traffic during the time the streetlights will be on. When conducting an independent traffic survey, a mere 12 cars utilized this intersection during night hours.
- There are no crosswalks or sidewalks at this location, so there is no issue of pedestrian safety.
- It is a lightly populated area with no commercial businesses and no active development.
- There has been no reported crime in the area of the proposed streetlights, so there is no issue of reducing/eliminating crime in this lightly populated area.
