Petition to Preserve the Residential Character of Cranley

Cranley is a peaceful and close-knit residential community that we, the undersigned residents and stakeholders, are proud to call home. We are deeply concerned about the proposed development plans for 255-272 Greenwattle Street, which seeks to rezone the area into a commercial and medium-density residential zone. We believe that this development will irreversibly impact our community's character, infrastructure, and quality of life.

By signing this petition, we express our strong opposition to the proposed rezoning and development plans and call upon the Local Council to consider our concerns and protect the residential integrity of our neighborhood. We believe that alternative solutions should be explored that preserve the tranquil and family-friendly environment we cherish.

We object to the proposed development for the following reasons:

Traffic Congestion: The introduction of commercial activities, aged care facilities, child care centers, and high-rise apartment complexes will result in a significant increase in traffic. The narrow streets of our quiet neighborhood are ill-equipped to handle this influx, posing safety risks for pedestrians, children, and elderly residents.

Strain on Infrastructure: The existing infrastructure, including roads, water supply, sewage systems, and public amenities, is not designed to support a commercial and medium-density residential zone. Overburdening the infrastructure will lead to frequent breakdowns, inadequate services, and compromised quality of life for current and future residents.

Loss of Community Identity: Our neighborhood thrives on the strong bonds and close relationships among its residents. Introducing large commercial establishments and high-density residential complexes will disrupt the sense of community, eroding the unique identity and neighborly interactions that define our neighborhood.

Environmental Concerns: The proposed development's scale and nature raise environmental concerns, including increased energy consumption, waste generation, and potential air, noise, and light pollution. These factors threaten the sustainability and ecological balance of our neighborhood, impacting the well-being of its residents and native flora and fauna.

We, the undersigned, urge the Local Council to:

Reject the proposed rezoning and development plans for the vacant plot of land in Cranley.

Prioritize the interests and well-being of existing residents by preserving the peaceful, low-density residential character that defines our community.

Engage with residents throughout the decision-making process and consider alternative solutions, such as low-density residential housing or community-centric spaces, to maintain the integrity of our neighborhood.

By signing below, we stand united in our commitment to protect the residential character of our neighborhood and safeguard the quality of life for current and future generations.

We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition to the Local Council with the hope that our voices will be heard and our concerns addressed. We trust that the Council will act in the best interests of our community and make a decision that reflects the aspirations and values of the residents it represents.

Thank you for your support in preserving the residential character of Cranley
