We have closed this petition to make way for I-27. Please consider signing I-27 https://www.safekingcounty.org/. Thank you.

We, the residents of the City of Seattle and King Counties’ Cities and Unincorporated Areas, petition our elected officials to rethink drug consumption sites and eliminate waiting lists for drug treatment.

Drug consumption sites are an expensive experiment that divert resources away from:

  1. Prevention, our best investment in the future
  2. Detox and treatment for anyone who needs it, when they need it
  3. Naloxone reverses the effects of heroin and opioid overdose -- expand distribution of this life-saving drug

Corri Durant’s brother died a few weeks ago from heroin-related medical complications. Corri shares,

“For over 20 years my brother lived on the streets of Seattle. He went through detox and recovery programs, but unfortunately they were not designed for long-term support.”

“Our region needs long-term recovery and long-term counseling. We need accountability for how we help people who are caught up in substance use disorders. We don’t need drug consumption sites.”

- Corri Durant, King County

A woman from Bellevue shares her family's struggle:

“I am the mother of a recovering Heroin addict. We prefer to remain anonymous as my son says, ‘that is not who I am anymore’. I am SO proud of his recent accomplishments. However, it was a heart wrenching, family destroying, and arduous road. When we desperately needed a treatment facility, it was like winning the lottery-far more losers than winners.”
- Anonymous, Bellevue, Washington

Drug consumption sites are also known as safe injection sites.
