Revitalize North Park Community Park
North Park Community Park (aka Frog Park) located by the North Park water tower is an invaluable public resource for the surrounding community of North Park and University Heights. Sadly, this park has been overran by dangerous, unsavory, criminal activity, and homeless encampments, which creates an unsafe environment for young children, students, women, seniors, and pets.
The good news is it doesn't have to be this way. The City has been unfolding its plan to redevelop El Cajon Blvd to encourage commercial and residential growth. A key part to the success of this plan is to clean-up North Park Community Park and restore the beautiful amenity for everyone's enjoyment.
The purpose of this petition is to demand that our representative Councilmember Chris Ward urge the City to provide 24/7 public safety personnel on site and enforce a nighttime closure of the park.
This will provide safer access to the public bathrooms, more children's activities throughout the grounds, a safer space for pets, a much cleaner park, space in trash bins, and overall a sense of relaxation - and not of intimidation.
Please join us in revitalizing North Park Community Park and help us take it back for the COMMUNITY!
Sign this petition and email your Councilmember Chris Ward to demand public safety at the park at christopherward@sandiego.gov.
Update: Many people are voicing their concerns about the homeless being pushed out with nowhere to go. We should demand more homeless outreach in the area to connect the homeless to necessary public services and organize community events to get the neighborhood involved. The goal is not to "kick out" the homeless, rather create a safer space for the hundreds of children that use the park regularly, e.g., eliminate open needle drug use.
