REVITALIZE VENICE'S CENTENNIAL PARK
a. Planting: Re-fresh the plants per the original, permitted, Venice Boulevard Landscape Design. On April 1we are submitting a request for funding from Venice Neighborhood Council Community Improvement Project award. With a VNC award a few years ago, I planted grasses on V. Blvd that continue to thrive. THESE PLANTINGS ARE WHAT THIS PETITION SUPPORTS
b. In-Ground Labyrinth Design: the one I built with community participation at 6th & San Juan will need to be moved soon, when the new owners of that lot begin construction. The developer has offered to assist in its removal and transport. With neighborhood volunteers we will install the Labyrinth at Centennial Park.
c. Dance Steps - I painted 5 dances in Centennial Park a few years ago. With permits, we’ll do them in beautiful stainless steel and put a plaque describing how an enormous dance hall was originally on the Venice Pier.
2. SEATING
a. Mosaic Spheres - Sculptural Seating: Five Balls, each with an image relating to Venice, great for sitting & climbing; cannot be used for sleeping or hiding. They've been approved by the Departments of Cultural Affairs & Street Services. We're awaiting to be on the agenda with Rec & Parks.
b. Readers Chaise - in the future, we envision creating seating for library patrons to curl up under a tree with a good book.
3. SCULPTURE
a. Abbot Kinney Reflected - like the anamorphic portrait that painted on the sidewalk at Electric & San Juan, however this one will be a marble mosaic with a stainless steel column.
This is the immediate, starting point for bringing the park to life: for neighbors and library goers to enjoy; for events like concerts, puppet shows, and art exhibits to bestaged, for Venice Boulevard to be "Los Angeles' ceremonial gateway to the beach," and to give the community one of our only neighborhood parks to walk, bike, skate and stroll to for our pure, healthy enjoyment.
